A modular, streaming HTTP server for node.js
Strata is a 2012-era streaming HTTP server for Node.js modeled on Rack/WSGI, where an app is just a function of (env, callback) and middleware stacks via strata.use(). It's for someone curious about pre-Express Node web server design, not for anyone shipping something today.
The Rack-style env/callback contract is a clean, minimal abstraction that still reads well — middleware composition (commonLogger, file, contentType, sessionCookie) is explicit and easy to trace. It ships a real SPEC document alongside the code, not just a README, and the multipart parser was borrowed from node-formidable rather than reinvented. Test coverage is broad: nearly every lib module has a matching test file.
The README's first line says all future development moved to 'mach' and this repo gets bug fixes only — and even that stopped, last push was mid-2014. It predates Promises/async-await entirely, so every handler is callback-based with no async/await ergonomics. No TypeScript types, and dependencies (node 0.8-era APIs) won't run cleanly on a current Node LTS without patching. This is a history lesson in Node web framework design, not a usable dependency.
