▶ Simple and lightweight, yet polished and powerful Android video player based on ExoPlayer
Just (Video) Player is an Android video player built on Media3/ExoPlayer, aimed at people who play local files and network streams and want more codec coverage than the stock player. It runs on Android 6+ and Android TV, and it has no ads, tracking, or excessive permissions.
The ffmpeg extension covers audio formats that stock players often drop, including AC-3, E-AC-3, DTS, DTS-HD, and TrueHD, so most home media libraries play without a second app. The README says it fixes audio drift with Bluetooth earphones, and it is candid about the limits of that fix. Decoder priority, file access mode, and default audio track each have their own setting instead of being buried. The feature list (pinch zoom, PiP, volume boost, auto frame rate matching, post-playback delete) is practical and does not pad the count.
Audio-only playback is not an official use case, so it is a poor fit for music files. There is no field for entering a stream URL, and Document Providers do not work on Android TV, so network shares depend on whichever file manager the user has. The ffmpeg, AV1, IAMF, and MPEG-H decoders ship as prebuilt .aar files in app/libs, so the native code in a release cannot be rebuilt or audited from this tree alone. The author estimates the app is about 90% feature complete, and the README sets low expectations for UI depth, so anyone who wants a media library should look at Nova or VLC instead.
