JavaScript Performance Monitor
stats.js is a tiny drop-in widget that shows FPS, frame time in ms, and memory usage as an overlay panel, mostly used to eyeball performance while developing WebGL/canvas/game-loop code. It's aimed at anyone doing real-time rendering work who wants a quick visual gut-check without wiring up devtools profiling.
Zero dependencies and dead simple API — three calls (begin/end/showPanel) and you're done. It's been the de facto standard in the three.js/WebGL ecosystem for over a decade, so it's battle-tested and easy to drop into any existing demo or example. The custom panel support means you can bolt on your own metric (draw calls, entity count, whatever) without forking anything.
Effectively unmaintained — last push was in 2024, and before that the project sat mostly static for years; don't expect fixes for edge cases. No TypeScript types shipped in the package, so you're either writing your own `.d.ts` or pulling from DefinitelyTyped. It's a visual overlay only — no way to programmatically read the numbers out for logging or CI perf regression checks, so it's genuinely a dev-time-only tool, not something you can wire into automated testing.
