// the find
muan/emoji
:love_letter: Find the emoji that echoes your mind.
A tiny static web app for searching emoji by keyword — type 'love' and get the matching emoji. It's the frontend only; the actual keyword-to-emoji data was split out into muan/emojilib back in 2015. Useful if you want a minimal reference implementation of emoji search, not much else.
Does one thing and stays out of your way — no framework, no build step, just an index.html, two JS files, and a stylesheet. Splitting the keyword data into emojilib was the right call technically: it decoupled the dataset from the UI, so the 460 forks are mostly people reusing the data, not this repo. Low surface area makes it trivial to read start to finish in a few minutes.
README only tells you what it is, not how to run or extend it — no setup instructions, no mention of how search.js consumes the emojilib data or how to update it. No package.json or build tooling visible in the tree, so dependency management (including pulling emojilib itself) is unclear or manual. No tests at all for a repo whose entire value is 'search works correctly.' Hasn't had a real content update since the 2015 emojilib split — last push in 2023 is almost certainly housekeeping, not feature work, and the emoji set is likely stale against current Unicode releases.
