// the take

N-club is a Koa 1/2-era forum app built on MongoDB and Redis, written as the companion code for a Chinese-language Node.js book (《Node.js实战》第二季). It's for developers learning the Koa middleware/generator-function style or following that specific tutorial, not for anyone who wants a forum to actually run.

The route/model/lib separation is a clean, readable example of a classic MVC-ish Koa app — good as a teaching reference. Pairing MongoDB for content with Redis for sessions/counters is a sensible, still-valid pattern for this kind of app. The theme is a separate EJS templating layer with its own package.json, so the view layer is reasonably decoupled from the app logic.

Last pushed in 2017 and built on Koa's old generator-function API (co/co-views era), so it won't run on a current Node LTS or any maintained Koa middleware without a rewrite. jQuery 1.11 is vendored directly into the theme, and dependencies are 9 years stale with no lockfile discipline visible, so a fresh `npm install` will likely pull broken or vulnerable transitive packages. There's a single test file (`test/signup.js`) and no CI, so there's no real guarantee the app still works even on an old Node version. No auth hardening, rate limiting, or anti-spam visible in the structure — fine for a book example, not fine for a public-facing forum.
