nvm-windows/nvm
The Node.js version manager for Windows.
A Windows-native Node.js version manager, fully rewritten in v2 with a Zig-based shim layer instead of symlinks. It's for Windows developers who got burned by nvm-windows v1's admin-privilege requirements and PATH hacks, or who want per-project Node pinning without reaching for WSL.
No admin privileges required to install or switch versions, which was the single biggest complaint about v1. Per-directory version pinning with auto-install of missing versions is real automation, not just a version switcher. The shim approach avoids Windows' notoriously fragile symlink permissions while still offering a link mode with junction fallback. Native Event Viewer logging and registry integration show this was actually engineered for Windows rather than ported from the Unix nvm.
This is now a meta-repo — the actual CLI, shim, sync, and common code live in separate submodule repos not visible from this README or tree, so you can't audit the real implementation here. v2 is a breaking rewrite from v1 with docs split out to a separate site instead of in-repo, so expect a real migration cost if you're already on v1. There's a commercial 'Certified Builds' tier being rolled out (policy enforcement, SIEM, SBOM) alongside the free edition — worth watching whether community features stagnate while the paid tier gets the attention. The visible workflow files are all build/release automation; there's no indication from the tree of what test coverage exists for the install/switch/shim-resolution path, which is exactly the part you don't want silently broken.
