// the take
A repo of screenshots taken from Gate Smashers' YouTube playlist on computer networking fundamentals, organized into module folders. It's exam-prep cram material for students studying for GATE or similar CS exams, not a reference for working engineers.
- Content is organized by module, so it roughly follows a logical curriculum progression (OSI layers, protocols, etc. presumably split across folders)
- Free and reusable if you're already following that YouTube series and want slide screenshots to review offline
- Low barrier to contribute more modules — it's just drop in screenshots, which explains why it grew to 55 forks
- The entire repo is PNG screenshots, not text — nothing is searchable, copy-pasteable, or indexable, so it's useless as a reference you'd actually look things up in
- No captions, alt text, or context accompanying the images — if you haven't watched the corresponding video, a screenshot of a slide mid-explanation often won't make sense on its own
- Content is literally someone else's slides captured from a video; this is a derivative/redistribution of Gate Smashers' material with no indication of permission, which is a real concern if you build anything on top of it
- Dead since January 2024 with no code, no issues being triaged, and no indication it'll ever grow past being a personal screenshot dump
