shadcn/next-contentlayer
A template with Next.js 13 app dir, Contentlayer, Tailwind CSS and dark mode.
A minimal starter showing how to wire Contentlayer's typed MDX pipeline into a Next.js 13 app-router project, with Tailwind and next-themes dark mode. It's for people evaluating Contentlayer as a blog/docs content layer and wanting a working reference rather than a production template.
The Contentlayer config and [...slug] route are small enough to read end to end in a few minutes, which makes it a decent way to understand the document-to-typed-object pipeline without wading through a bigger app. Dark mode is done the boring correct way with next-themes and a theme-provider wrapping the root layout, so there's no flash-of-wrong-theme to debug. Directory structure separates content (MDX) from components cleanly, so it's easy to lift just the Contentlayer wiring into an existing project.
Contentlayer itself stalled after its maintainers moved on and joining Vercel didn't produce further releases, so anyone starting a new project on this in 2026 is building on a dependency that won't get fixes for breaking changes in newer Next.js versions. No push since January 2024 means the app-router patterns here predate several Next.js releases and may already need adjustment. There's no CI, no tests, and no example of the more painful parts of a real blog - pagination, RSS, search, or incremental content builds - so it answers 'does the wiring work' and nothing past that.
