Today I Learned
A personal, ever-growing collection of ~580 dated 'Today I Learned' markdown notes from Simon Willison, covering SQLite internals, GitHub Actions, Django, LLM tooling, and dozens of other topics. It's for developers who want a quick, specific answer to a narrow problem someone else already hit, not a tutorial or library to depend on.
Each entry is short, dated, and scoped to one concrete problem (e.g. 'PostgreSQL full-text search in the Django Admin'), so it reads like a well-organized personal wiki rather than a blog. Six years of consistent output means the notes stay current with modern tooling (uv, GitHub Codespaces devcontainers, free-threaded Python). The whole thing is searchable via a Datasette-powered site (til.simonwillison.net) with a full-text index and Atom feed, so you don't have to browse the repo tree to find something.
It's not a project you install or depend on - there's no API, no package, nothing to pin a version against, so its value is entirely a function of whether your problem happens to overlap with something Simon ran into. Entries aren't cross-linked or flagged when superseded, so some older TILs (2020-2021 vintage, e.g. pytest-mock or Heroku pg:pull notes) are likely stale and there's no signal telling you which ones are. It's a single-author personal notebook, not a community project - don't expect issues or PRs to go anywhere.
