A free and open source comics, manga and digital book server with OPDS support

Stump is a self-hosted server for comics, manga, and ebooks (EPUB/PDF/CBZ/CBR) with a Rust/Axum backend, React web UI, Tauri desktop app, and Expo mobile client. It's for people who want a Komga/Kavita alternative that also talks OPDS and syncs with dedicated e-readers like Kobo and KoReader.

First-party Kobo and KoReader sync (annotations, progress) is a real feature, not just a checkbox — most self-hosted readers punt on this entirely. Supporting both OPDS 1.2 (with PSE) and OPDS 2.0 means it plugs into existing reader apps without forcing users onto a bespoke client. One Rust backend (Axum + SeaORM) driving web, Tauri desktop, and Expo mobile from a shared API is a sane way to cover three platforms without tripling the maintenance burden.

The README's own disclaimer says beta, no guarantee against data loss — that's a real risk for something people point their book/comic library and reading progress at long-term. No audiobook support, so anyone with a mixed audiobook + ebook/comics collection still needs a second server (audiobookshelf) alongside it. It's a single maintainer doing this in their free time with no roadmap commitments, which is a bus-factor problem for infrastructure people are self-hosting. The contributing section explicitly lists 'writing comprehensive tests' as an area needing help, which is a tell that test coverage is thin for a project with this much surface area (auth, permissions, sync, multi-format parsing).
