Terrakube is a self-hosted alternative to Terraform Cloud/Enterprise: a Spring Boot + Elide API backed by Postgres, with a UI, VCS integrations, and Kubernetes-native execution for Terraform/OpenTofu runs. It's aimed at platform teams who want TFC-style remote state, private registries, and RBAC without paying Hashicorp or running their own home-grown wrapper around terraform CLI.
Supports both Terraform and OpenTofu and implements the actual `remote` backend / `cloud` block protocol, so existing CLI-driven workflows just repoint at it instead of switching tools. VCS support goes beyond GitHub to GitLab, Bitbucket, and Azure DevOps, which most self-hosted TFC clones skip. The scheduler package shows real operational depth — ephemeral Kubernetes executors, job reconciliation sweeps, policy drift evaluation, and Slack/Teams/webhook notification dispatch — this isn't a CRUD toy. Dex-based auth gives it SSO against AAD, Cognito, SAML, and GitHub for free instead of rolling custom auth.
The Java/Spring Boot/Elide stack means a non-trivial deployment: Postgres, the API, a UI, and Dex all need to be running before you can apply a single plan — no single binary. The README is screenshots and feature bullets, not an explanation of how the Elide layer, job scheduling, or executor model actually fits together, so you're reading source to understand the architecture. It explicitly leans on a Hashicorp-confirmed compatibility statement for the Terraform BSL license rather than a real guarantee, which is a dependency on goodwill, not a contract. Getting-started paths push toward Helm/minikube/Kubernetes first; Docker Compose exists but feels like the secondary option, raising the bar for anyone who just wants to kick the tires.
