Docker image with Nginx using the nginx-rtmp-module module for live multimedia (video) streaming.

A minimal Docker image that builds Nginx from source with the nginx-rtmp-module compiled in, giving you a self-hosted RTMP ingest/relay server. Useful for anyone who wants to receive an OBS Studio stream and fan it out to multiple viewers (VLC, ffplay, etc.) without depending on a third-party streaming platform.

Built straight from upstream Nginx and nginx-rtmp-module sources rather than forking an old snapshot, which the README calls out as unusual for this niche of images. Ships a real RTMPS setup (stream-level SSL termination proxying to a local unencrypted RTMP backend) instead of just documenting plain RTMP. CI actually publishes a test stream with ffmpeg and asserts retransmission works via ffplay, so the core use case is checked on every push, not just assumed. Config is a single small nginx.conf you override by copying a new file in a derived Dockerfile — no templating system to fight.

nginx-rtmp-module itself has been effectively unmaintained upstream for years, so you're building on a module that won't get security patches from its author regardless of how fresh this image's build is. Default config has zero access control — the `live` application accepts publishers from anyone who can reach port 1935, so it's not something you'd expose publicly without adding your own `on_publish` auth hook. No transcoding, adaptive bitrate, or HLS/DASH output in the base config — it's a raw RTMP relay, so anything beyond OBS-to-VLC needs you to hand-write nginx-rtmp directives yourself. Nginx version pinned in the README (1.15.0) is years out of date as documentation, even if the actual Dockerfile build pulls current sources — worth checking the Dockerfile directly rather than trusting the prose.
