Open-source, AI-native knowledge base & Evernote alternative with native MCP. Zero-cost on Cloudflare or Docker.

EdgeEver is an open-source Evernote-style notes app with a three-pane UI, native clients on web/desktop/iOS/Android, and a built-in MCP server so AI agents can read and write notes directly. It targets people who liked Evernote's workflow but want their data in open formats, deployable for free on Cloudflare or self-hosted via Docker.

The MCP integration is a real CRUD surface scoped to per-user API tokens, not a bolted-on demo — agents like Claude Code or Cursor can manage notebooks, tags, and revisions within actual account permissions. The Cloudflare (D1/R2/Workers) and Docker (SQLite) deployment targets share one backend rather than being two divergent implementations, and the zero-cost Cloudflare tier is genuinely free, not a crippled trial. Content is persisted in three parallel forms (TipTap JSON, Markdown, plain text) with a documented lossless ZIP export, so the 'open data' claim is backed by an actual export path rather than just a README line.

The repo spans six app targets (web, browser extension, API, Android, iOS, Electron desktop) plus a Rust sidecar and a separate marketing site — a lot of surface to keep consistent, and a real bus-factor risk if this is mostly one maintainer. Several flagship features (Xiaohongshu clipping, Zhihu clipping, WeChat Official Account export, WeChat chat archiving) depend on scraping platforms with no public API for this use case, so they'll break silently whenever those sites change their markup. The 1097 forks against 2091 stars lines up suspiciously well with the recommended 'fork this repo to deploy your own Cloudflare Worker' setup flow, so a chunk of that fork count is likely personal deployments rather than contributors — don't read it as community size. Self-hosted auth is a single shared admin password with member accounts created by that admin; there's no OAuth/SSO or 2FA mentioned, which is fine solo but thin once more than a couple of people share an instance.
