pathogen.vim: manage your runtimepath

pathogen.vim is a Vim plugin manager that lets you drop plugins into `~/.vim/bundle` subdirectories and have them added to `runtimepath` automatically, instead of dumping every plugin's files into one shared directory. It's aimed at Vim (not Neovim) users who haven't moved to a modern manager, and the README itself now tells new users to skip it in favor of Vim 8's built-in `:help packages`.

Does one job (runtimepath manipulation) and does it with essentially zero code or dependencies — the whole thing is one autoload script. Battle-tested: 12k+ stars and over a decade of real-world use means the edge cases in path handling are long since shaken out. `pathogen#infect()` gracefully backports native Vim 8 package support so it doesn't fight the built-in system.

No lazy-loading, no dependency resolution, no update mechanism — you're on your own for `git pull` across bundles or scripting it yourself. Last push was 2022 and the author's own docs steer newcomers toward native packages or plugin managers like vim-plug/packer, so this is effectively in maintenance mode, not active development. Zero relevance to Neovim users, who are now the majority of the ecosystem and have their own managers (lazy.nvim, packer.nvim) with far more features.
