// the take

A small Android utility by vvb2060 (known for Magisk-adjacent tooling like KeyAttestation) that lets you inspect and tweak carrier IMS settings — VoLTE/VoWiFi registration state — using Shizuku for privileged access instead of requiring root. It's for power users and ROM enthusiasts dealing with carrier IMS bugs, not general consumers.

Uses Shizuku instead of root, so it works on locked bootloaders and stock ROMs where root isn't an option — a much lower barrier than most tools in this space. The codebase is tiny and single-purpose (effectively two Java files plus manifest), so there's very little surface to audit before trusting it with privileged system calls. Coming from an author with a solid track record in Android systems tooling gives it more credibility than the average root-adjacent utility.

It depends entirely on Shizuku being installed and running, which is itself an extra setup step (ADB pairing or wireless debugging) that will lose a chunk of the audience the no-root pitch is meant to attract. It almost certainly leans on hidden/reflection APIs to touch IMS internals, which is the kind of thing that silently breaks on Android version bumps and puts maintenance burden squarely on one author. Written in Java rather than Kotlin, which on a repo this new signals it's not being actively modernized. Messing with IMS/VoLTE state carries real risk of breaking calls or mobile data if misused, and there's nothing in the tree suggesting guardrails or confirmation prompts around that.
