Blosm addon for Blender. A few clicks import of Google 3D cities, OpenStreetMap, terrain. Global coverage. Source code is in the branch 'release'.
Blosm is a Blender addon that pulls OpenStreetMap buildings, roads, and terrain (and Google 3D Tiles cities, per the description) into a Blender scene. It is aimed at people doing city visualization, game-environment prototyping, or GIS-adjacent 3D work who want real geography without hand-modelling it. The source lives on the `release` branch rather than `main`, which is a small but real friction point for anyone wanting to read or fork it.
The base version is GPL and free, and the README is explicit that the Pro version's source is also released under GPL, so the code is inspectable and forkable. Terrain import uses real elevation data at about 30 m resolution and projects roads and buildings onto it, which is the part most people reach for and the part that is hardest to get right by hand. Roads come in as Blender curves with a profile object, which keeps them editable instead of baking them into flat meshes. The project has held up for years, with over 2,000 stars and a recent push.
The README is almost entirely a sales page: two Gumroad links, a Pro feature list, and a support email, with the actual technical docs pushed to an external wiki. Nothing here tells you how the importer handles OSM tag edge cases, what Blender versions are supported, or how large an area is practical before it chokes. Source is on a non-default `release` branch, and the repo has no visible tests, CI, or contribution notes. The Pro/base split also means the most useful features (textured buildings, tree placement, satellite draping) are closed-source-by-purchase in practice, so adopting this for anything beyond untextured massing means paying or going without.
