An AI friendly markdown editor.

VMark is a Tauri/Rust desktop markdown editor built for developers who want AI assistants (Claude Code, Codex CLI, etc.) reading and writing the same plain-text files as them, with format-aware previews for things like Cargo.toml and GitHub Actions YAML instead of a generic JSON tree. It's aimed at people who already work with AI CLI tools and want a local, no-account editor that sits in that workflow rather than a general-purpose Markdown app.

Native MCP server support for several AI CLIs is a real integration, not a marketing bullet — the AI and the human genuinely operate on the same file with no export/import step. The schema-aware views (dependency-tree for package manifests, workflow-graph for CI YAML) are a concrete, useful idea most editors don't bother with. The e2e suite is unusually thorough for a project this size — 39 journeys covering autosave, IME composition, terminal cwd sync, and even SSRF policy for an embedded browser feature, which is far more rigor than most 'AI-assisted' repos ship with.

The project accepts issues only, never PRs, by design — so as a contributor you can describe a problem but never actually fix it yourself, which is a real limitation if you hit something the maintainer doesn't prioritize. It's explicitly 'vibe-coded... under human supervision' with no detail on review depth, which matters more here than in a typical repo since this tool reads and writes your files directly. macOS is the only fully supported platform; Windows and Linux builds are best-effort, so non-Mac users are second-class. Building from source requires a manual, easy-to-miss step (building the MCP sidecar separately since it's gitignored) that a fresh clone won't have working out of the box.
