Supplementary Materials for the The Complete dbt (Data Build Tool) Bootcamp Udemy course
Companion code for a paid dbt course, built as one Airbnb listings project on Snowflake. It suits people new to dbt, or analysts moving into analytics engineering, who want to see models, tests, snapshots, macros and a few Python models working together in one repo.
- Unit tests sit next to the models they cover (airbnb/models/mart/unit_tests.yml), and the custom generic tests in airbnb/tests/generic show how to write reusable checks instead of one-off SQL.
- The Python models (dim_fullmoon.py, dim_long_term_listings.py, fct_reviews_sentiment_score.py) cover a part of dbt that most tutorials skip, and the generate_schema_name macro shows how to override schema naming per environment.
- The workflow names (pr-slim-ci.yml, pr-cleanup.yml, prod-build.yml) suggest per-PR slim CI with schema teardown, which is more than most example repos attempt.
- Everything assumes Snowflake. The course outline lists Snowflake setup and _prod_profiles targets it, so moving to Postgres or BigQuery means rewriting configuration as well as SQL.
- The top-level README is mostly a course pitch with a referral link and gives no local run steps. You have to dig through _course_resources or the devcontainer config to get the project running.
- This is teaching code, so near-duplicate models sit side by side (dim_hosts_cleansed and dim_hosts_cleansed_v2) with no note on which one is the intended pattern.
- dbt_dagster_project is a second Python project in the same repo with almost no description, and nothing says whether it is meant to run against airbnb/ or stand alone.
