// the take
guijs is a desktop GUI (Tauri + Vue + GraphQL) for managing JS/Node projects — dependency installs/updates, task running with live logs, git diff viewing, and project scaffolding wizards, extensible via a plugin API. It's the spiritual successor to vue-cli-ui by the same author, aimed at developers who'd rather click through dependency/task management than live entirely in the terminal.
The feature set from the directory structure is genuinely broad — dependency management, a task runner with live log streaming, a git diff viewer, and project creation wizards, not just a dependency list viewer. The plugin system (ClientAddonApi, pluginInstall/pluginInvoke) lets third parties extend the app without forking it. GraphQL subscriptions (taskLogAdded, progressChanged, consoleLogAdded) are a sensible fit for a long-running local app that needs to push real-time updates to its own UI. It's built by Guillaume Chau (Akryum), a Vue core team member, so the architecture choices reflect real production experience, not a first attempt.
No commits since February 2023 — over three years with no activity, so any bugs or dependency/security issues in Tauri, Apollo, or the underlying Node tooling it manages are unaddressed. The repo contains a `legacy/app-core` tree sitting alongside whatever replacement was in progress, which reads like an unfinished rewrite the project never came back to finish. The stack — Tauri + Vue + GraphQL + Apollo + Nodepack — is a lot of moving parts for what's fundamentally a local dev-tool GUI, meaning more surface area to debug when something breaks on a given OS/Node version combo. Documentation lives entirely off-repo on guijs.dev rather than in the README, so if that site goes down, setup and usage instructions go with it.
We read the README, the directory tree and a key source file in October 2026. Nobody pays to be listed. How we judge →
