⚡ A native app for all your coding agents.
Waku is a native desktop app (Rust + GPUI) that gives you one UI for juggling multiple coding-agent CLIs — Claude Code, Codex, Cursor CLI, Amp, etc. — with persistent projects and sessions. It's for developers who run several agent CLIs and are tired of separate terminal tabs with no shared history or task management.
The daemon/client split is a real architecture decision, not an afterthought: waku-daemon owns all state (SQLite tasks, Git ops, filesystem) over a versioned, authenticated WebSocket protocol, and the desktop is just a thin RPC client — that's why a browser client with a separately generated TypeScript transport can exist at all. It talks to each agent's native structured protocol instead of scraping terminal output, which is the only sane way to support nine different CLIs without constant breakage. Local-first by default: no Waku account, loopback-only daemon auth unless you explicitly expose it, config and data all on disk.
GPL-3.0-only is a real constraint for anyone wanting to fork or embed this commercially — worth flagging since most tools in this space are MIT/Apache. The README admits a real gap: connecting to a daemon running elsewhere disables the local folder picker and PTY because the protocol has no daemon-host equivalents yet, so multi-machine setups are second-class. Computer-use and the embedded browser are macOS-only with no stated timeline for Linux/Windows parity, and Waku itself does nothing to install or authenticate the underlying agent CLIs — you're on your own for that setup step.
