// the take

A community-run visual reference site for Jetpack Compose UI components, built with Astro and deployed at jetpackcompose.pro. It's not a library — it's documentation showing each Compose component (buttons, chips, cards, sheets, etc.) with Material 2 vs Material 3 screenshots and short usage notes, aimed at Android devs who want a faster lookup than the official Compose docs.

Side-by-side Material 2 vs Material 3 screenshots/gifs per component is a genuinely useful format the official docs don't bother with. Coverage is broad — buttons, carousels, pickers, sheets, swipe gestures, tabs are all represented with real rendered examples rather than just prose. Contribution flow is low-friction: pick an issue, use the MDX template, same pattern every time, which is why it's attracted 42 forks for a docs site.

Content is primarily in Spanish with no working i18n (the i18n folder is just a .gitkeep), so it's not useful as-is for most English-speaking devs. It's documentation only — there's no code you install or import, so the value is entirely in the quality and freshness of the written examples, which the README itself admits is 'fase muy inicial' (early stage) with uneven coverage. Nothing ties content to a specific Compose version, so as Material 3 APIs evolve, screenshots and snippets can go stale silently with no versioning or CI check to catch it. Entirely dependent on volunteer throughput for both initial coverage and keeping existing pages accurate over time.

We read the README, the directory tree and a key source file in October 2026. Nobody pays to be listed. How we judge →
