// the take
A README-only collection of joke ASCII-art code comments (angry gods, doge, keyboard diagrams, profanity) popular in the Chinese dev community for pasting into code as a gag. It's not a tool or library, just a copy-paste meme repository, aimed at developers who want a laugh rather than anyone solving an engineering problem.
The ASCII art itself is well-executed and varied — Buddha blessing your code, doge, a full keyboard layout, dragon/phoenix figures — genuinely funny if you've seen these pasted into Chinese codebases before. Zero setup or dependencies: it's literally copy-paste text, so there's no install friction or version compatibility to worry about.
There is no code, no package, no API — 'adopting' it means copy-pasting ASCII art into your source files, which is a liability if it ends up in production comments (some blocks contain profanity like 'FUCK YOU' in ASCII form). Dead since 2020, so no reason to expect updates, and several linked external tools for generating your own ASCII art have already gone offline per the README's own strikethrough notes. The content is almost entirely in Chinese with no English equivalents, so it's inaccessible to a large share of the audience this newsletter targets.
