Docker Mastery for Node.js Projects, From a Docker Captain

// the take

A companion repo for Bret Fisher's Udemy course on using Docker with Node.js apps — a pile of small example projects and assignments covering Dockerfiles, Compose, BuildKit, healthchecks, multi-stage builds, and swarm/Kubernetes basics. It's for developers taking (or who have taken) the course, not a general-purpose reference on its own.

The examples hit real operational concerns most Docker tutorials skip: BuildKit cache mounts and SSH forwarding, graceful shutdown handling, container healthchecks wired into Node's process, and a side-by-side bad.yml/good.yml Compose comparison that actually shows the failure mode instead of just stating a rule. CI lints every Dockerfile with hadolint plus markdown and YAML linting, so the sample configs stay syntactically correct. Comes from someone who's been deep in Docker tooling for years, so the patterns reflect production experience rather than copy-pasted boilerplate.

It's explicitly scoped to a paid Udemy course — the README says issues/PRs are fine but points you to Udemy for any lecture-specific explanation, so without the course the code has no narrative tying the pieces together. There's no written rationale in the repo itself for why one Dockerfile pattern beats another; you're expected to get that from the video. It's not something you adopt into a project — it's a set of static teaching snippets, so its value decays as Docker and Node versions move on and there's no changelog or indication of how often the examples get revisited against current best practice.

We read the README, the directory tree and a key source file in October 2026. Nobody pays to be listed. How we judge →
