// the take

This is the companion repo for Bret Fisher's Udemy courses 'Docker Mastery' and 'Swarm Mastery' — a pile of Dockerfiles, compose files, Swarm stacks, and Kubernetes YAML organized by course section, each paired with an assignment and an answer. It's for people actively taking (or following along with) those video courses, not for anyone looking for a reusable tool or library.

Each exercise ships both an assignment folder and an answer folder, so you can actually attempt the problem before checking the solution instead of just reading finished code. The Swarm and Compose sections use a real multi-service app (example-voting-app) with healthchecks, secrets, and placement constraints, rather than toy hello-world containers. There's a working CI setup running super-linter with hadolint against the Dockerfiles, so at least the sample code is held to some linting standard.

The content is only useful alongside the paid video lectures — file and folder names like 'S07' or 'swarm-stack-3' mean nothing without the course numbering they map to, so browsing the repo cold tells you almost nothing. A chunk of the material teaches Docker Swarm, which has lost most of its real-world adoption to Kubernetes, so that portion is of shrinking practical value outside the course itself. Some examples reference Docker 19.03-era features and older Kubernetes install steps, so copy-pasting YAML or compose syntax from here into a current project risks pulling in stale patterns. There are no automated tests validating that the 'answer' directories actually work, so correctness relies on manual review and can silently rot as the course gets updated around them.
