Spine module for godot game engine
A C module that vendors the official spine-c runtime and wires it into Godot 3.0's scene tree as a custom `Spine` node, giving Godot games skeletal animation support via Spine2D. It's for developers maintaining Godot 3.x projects who need Spine playback and are willing to build Godot from source to get it.
Wraps the actual spine-c runtime rather than reimplementing the format, so animation fidelity tracks upstream Esoteric Software code for the targeted version. The vendored headers include mesh, clipping, path, and transform constraint support, so it's not a cut-down subset of Spine's feature set. The Godot-specific glue (register_types, spine.cpp/h, spine_batcher) is small and separable from the vendored runtime, making the actual integration surface easy to audit.
Targets Godot 3.0 only, and Godot 4's GDExtension model (shipped 2023) has made in-tree engine modules like this obsolete for new work — there's no sign of a 4.x port and the last push was 2022-04-14. It has to be compiled into the Godot engine source tree with SCons rather than dropped in as a plugin, so every engine version bump means re-patching and rebuilding the whole editor. It's pinned to Spine runtime 3.6.52.1, multiple major versions behind current Spine, so skeletons exported from a newer Spine editor likely won't load without hand-patching the vendored C files. Licensing is a mix of two differently-forked MIT codebases plus the separate Spine Runtimes Software License, with no reconciliation of terms in the README — worth reading closely before shipping a commercial title.
