An easy to use markdown editor with live preview and Image uploading

A jQuery-era markdown editor built on CodeMirror that wraps a textarea with live preview and drag-and-drop image uploading to a REST endpoint. Useful if you're maintaining an old PHP/jQuery stack and need a drop-in editor without a modern build pipeline; not a fit for anything React/Vue or TypeScript-based.

CodeMirror as the underlying editor means syntax highlighting and cursor handling are solid rather than reinvented. The image uploader is a genuinely useful feature most markdown editor libraries skip — drag-and-drop to a configurable endpoint with a data array for pre-existing images. Options are plain and readable (labels, flash callback, ctrls for autosave) so swapping in your own notification system or backend is a few lines, not a plugin API to learn.

Last pushed in 2021 and the README's own title is 'Work in progress but it's close to be finished' — that's the project's final state, not a mid-development note. Toolchain is bower + gulp + CoffeeScript, all effectively dead; you'll be fighting npm install before you touch the code. Author states it was 'only tested with chrome atm,' which for a textarea-replacement UI library is a real risk. The upload.php example ships in the repo with no CSRF or file-type validation shown, so copying it directly is a security problem waiting to happen. Zero tests, zero TypeScript defs, and no npm package — you're vendoring dist/mdeditor.min.js and hoping.
