A django app that allows the easy addition of Stack Overflow's "PageDown" markdown editor to a django form field, whether in a custom app or the Django Admin

A thin Django widget that wraps Stack Overflow's old PageDown markdown editor for use in the admin or custom forms. It's for anyone who wants a WYSIWYG-ish markdown textarea without writing the JS integration themselves — small projects, not greenfield apps chasing a modern editor.

The widget API is genuinely flexible — formfield_overrides for blanket admin coverage, or explicit widget assignment per field, both documented with real code. Image upload is a real feature, not an afterthought: configurable upload path, extension whitelist, and optional UUID-subfolder uniqueness, with the view source linked directly in the README. Customizing the widget is a one-line subclass (template_name + Media), which is the right amount of abstraction for a widget library.

No commits since July 2021 — over four years dead as of now, and the stated requirement floor is just "Django 2.1+" with no upper bound tested, so admin compatibility with current Django is unverified. It wraps StackExchange/pagedown as a git submodule, and that upstream project is itself abandoned, so you're building on two layers of unmaintained JS. The README has to explain a workaround for rendering markdown in templates (installing django-markdown-deux) because Django dropped the built-in filter — that's a sign the package itself never absorbed a basic need. Tests live in a single flat tests.py with no CI badge or workflow file visible, so there's no signal the test suite still passes against anything recent.
