// the take

A free Chinese-language book (built with VuePress) explaining how Vue's renderer works under the hood: VNodes, mounting, diffing, and patching, with side-by-side coverage of the Vue 2 and Vue 3 diff algorithms. It's for developers who already use Vue and want to understand its internals, not a library you install.

The diffing chapters are unusually thorough, walking through the Vue 2 dual-end diff and the Vue 3 longest-increasing-subsequence algorithm with benchmark comparisons and dozens of step-by-step diagrams rather than just prose. It also covers the less-documented corners of the renderer — functional components, fragments, portals, async rendering — with runnable code samples under docs/.vuepress/codes rather than hand-waving. 5.9k stars suggests it's a known reference point in the Chinese Vue community, not an obscure writeup.

It's entirely in Chinese with no English version, so it's only useful to readers who can follow that, despite documenting internals relevant to the whole Vue ecosystem. The repo has had no commits since December 2022, so it reflects Vue 3's renderer as of that point and won't cover anything changed since. It's a static book, not a tool: there's no way to interact with the algorithms beyond the two included code samples, and no search or exercises beyond reading linearly.
