The audience is mechanical keyboard enthusiasts who want to design custom cases, plates, and accessories that physically fit real Keychron hardware without reverse-engineering from calipers.
Production-grade STEP files are the real value: these are the actual manufacturer tolerances, not hobbyist measurements, so your custom brass plate won't need three iterations to fit. The license is more permissive than it looks — original compatible accessories and add-ons are explicitly carved out from the commercial-use restriction, which is exactly what the community needs. The repo is actively maintained with near-weekly additions as new models ship. The directory structure is straightforward and the inventory script regenerates automatically, so finding files for a specific model is a one-line problem.
Coverage is uneven — many folders are just README placeholders waiting for CAD files that haven't arrived yet, so if you bought a Q Max or V Ultra 8K you may find an empty folder. The files themselves are binary blobs (STEP, DWG) with no version history that's meaningful to diff, so GitHub is basically functioning as a CDN with extra steps. There's no tolerance or revision metadata in the filenames or a changelog per model, so you can't tell if a STEP file was updated after a production revision without checking the commit date. The license FAQ is clear enough, but 'source-available' is doing a lot of work here — this is not open hardware by OSHWA's definition, and anyone hoping to manufacture compatible OEM-style cases commercially will hit a grey zone fast.
