PiP tool is a software to use the Picture in Picture mode on Windows. This feature allows you to watch content (video for example) in thumbnail format on the screen while continuing to use any other software on Windows.

A WPF desktop app that lets you crop any window on Windows into an always-on-top floating thumbnail, with ML.NET quietly learning your preferred crop regions from past usage. It's aimed at Windows users who want picture-in-picture for apps that don't support it natively (pre-dates Windows' own PiP features in most browsers/apps).

The ML.NET usage is a genuinely practical application rather than a demo bolt-on - it predicts your likely crop region from locally stored history instead of hardcoding window-type heuristics. The codebase is split into separate projects for native Win32 interop (PiP-Tool.Native), ML (PiP-Tool.MachineLearning), and shared helpers, so the Win32 P/Invoke mess is at least quarantined from the WPF view layer.

Last commit is from December 2022 and it still targets .NET Framework 4.7, not .NET Core or .NET 5+, so it's effectively frozen and won't benefit from any modern .NET tooling or perf work. Distribution is MSI-only from GitHub Releases - no winget, no Chocolatey, no portable build - which is friction for a utility this small. It explicitly doesn't handle minimized source windows, which breaks the most obvious real-world use case (minimize the browser, keep watching the video). There's no visible test project in the tree, so any contributor touching the native interop or ML prediction logic is flying blind.
