The media player for language learning, with dual subtitles, AI-generated subtitles, real-time translation, and more!

LLPlayer is a Windows WPF video player built specifically for language learners: dual subtitles, local Whisper-based ASR for auto-generated subtitles, OCR for converting bitmap subtitles to text, and real-time translation (cloud or local LLM). It's for people studying a language by watching foreign video who want Language Reactor-style tooling without being locked into a browser extension or Netflix.

Built on Flyleaf instead of wrapping libmpv/libVLC, so the whole player is C#/.NET and genuinely hackable rather than a thin shim over a C library with a scary build step. ASR and OCR run fully local (whisper.cpp/faster-whisper, Tesseract), and translation can go through Ollama/LM Studio, so there's a real offline/private path rather than just slapping an API key requirement on everything. Decent breadth for a single-maintainer project: yt-dlp integration for streaming sites, subtitle seeking across formats, and a context-aware translation mode that uses the LLM to disambiguate rather than translating subtitle lines in isolation.

Windows-only — cross-platform via Avalonia is listed under 'Future', which in a roadmap usually means 'not happening soon'. The project self-describes as Beta with explicit warnings that settings/config files may break across updates during the 0.x series, so treat it as something to tinker with, not something to build a workflow around yet. Dictionary lookup isn't actually integrated — it's clipboard-based, relying on external tools (Yomitan, 10ten, a separate dictionary app) to pick up copied text, which is a workaround rather than a feature. Test coverage is thin for a project this feature-dense — the test project covers subtitle text utilities and the subtitle manager, with no visible coverage of the ASR/OCR/translation pipelines that are the actual selling point.
