Revolutionary-Games/Thrive
The main repository for the development of the evolution game Thrive.
Thrive is the C#/Godot codebase for an evolution simulation game that's been in open development for over a decade, with real releases on Steam and Itch. It's for developers who want to contribute to an actual shipping game rather than a toy project, especially if you're interested in Godot/C# or biology-flavored simulation design.
The build tooling is unusually mature for an open-source game: a dedicated Scripts C# project (run via `dotnet run --project Scripts`) handles localization extraction, dehydration/packaging, Steam builds, and CI checks, plus clang-format/clang-tidy and pre-commit config wired in. Assets are split into Git LFS with a separate raw-assets repo so the main repo doesn't bloat. There's a real translation pipeline through Weblate and gdUnit4 is integrated for Godot-side testing. Contribution docs (style guide, setup instructions, code of conduct) are genuinely filled in, not placeholders.
The README admits outright that tests don't currently exist for the Godot version of the game — for a decade-old simulation codebase, that's a real regression risk, not just a nice-to-have gap. Getting a working dev environment requires Godot, Git LFS, and the custom Scripts tooling before you can build anything, so it's not a clone-and-run project. The LFS-tracked assets mean an expensive initial clone. And this is a single application, not a library — there's nothing here to extract or reuse if you're not specifically interested in contributing to Thrive itself.
