Streaming server for Unity

Unity's own solution for streaming rendered frames out of the Editor/Player to a browser over WebRTC, aimed at things like car configurators or architectural walkthroughs you want to view on a phone without shipping a native build. It bundles the core Unity package, HDRP (and HDRP+RTX) template projects, and a reference Node/TypeScript signaling server you're expected to run yourself.

It's a genuinely full-stack reference: the Unity-side package, two ready-to-run HDRP templates, and a signaling WebApp with actual Jest test suites on both client and server (httphandler, websocket handling, input remoting) rather than a bare demo. Platform coverage is broad for this kind of project — iOS, Android, Apple Silicon, Linux via URP/HDRP, DXR raytracing, and AR Foundation samples are all in there, which means someone already fought through the hard cross-platform WebRTC-in-Unity problems. Documentation goes well beyond a quickstart, with dedicated pages for audio streaming, data channels, input remoting, HTTPS setup, and multi-camera — the kind of detail you only get from a vendor that has fielded a lot of support tickets.

The version history is a red flag: it's been stuck on '-exp' (experimental) preview tags since 3.1.0-exp.1 in mid-2021 through exp.8 in late 2023, never graduating to a real 3.x stable release — treat the public API as liable to shift under you. It has a hard dependency on Unity's separate com.unity.webrtc package, so when streaming breaks you're potentially debugging across two packages with their own release cadences and platform quirks. CI runs on Yamato, Unity's internal/proprietary system, so you get no visible build or test status on PRs from outside Unity, making it hard to trust a fork or external contribution without building it yourself. It's also pinned to specific Unity versions (2020.3/2021.3/2022.2-2022.3) and HDRP/URP — dropping it into a newer Unity version will likely mean patching package code before it compiles.
