Tesla custom integration for Home Assistant. This requires a refresh token be generated by third-party apps to login.

// the take

A Home Assistant custom integration for Tesla vehicles and energy products (Powerwall/solar), born as a community fork after HA pulled the official Tesla integration over login breakage. It's for Tesla owners running Home Assistant who want car control (locks, climate, charging) and energy-site monitoring as native entities.

Entity coverage is genuinely broad - locks, covers, climate presets, device tracker with route info, and a separate energy-site domain for Powerwall/solar, not just the usual battery-and-charge-state basics. It ships a real test suite with mock car/energysite fixtures and per-platform test files, plus CI (pull/push/codeql workflows) rather than just vibes. It also supports pulling data via TeslaMate/MQTT as an alternative to polling the Tesla API directly, which is a smart way to cut vampire-drain risk for people already running TeslaMate.

Auth is fragile by design: you need a separate third-party app (Android/iOS/Chromium token generator) to mint a refresh token, which is exactly the kind of out-of-band dependency that breaks silently when Tesla changes something. For most vehicles now you also need to self-host a Fleet API HTTP proxy (DuckDNS/nginx, per the wiki) just to send commands - that's a lot of infra for a 'smart home integration' and a steep jump from basic HACS install. Polling behavior and battery impact are left almost entirely to user tuning (polling_interval, wake-on-start, polling policy) with no official guidance from Tesla, so getting it right is trial and error. And the project's whole existence is downstream of Tesla's API instability - it only exists because the official integration got killed by login issues, so the same category of breakage can recur.
