AR Record and Playback System on Unity ARFoundation

A Unity package that records an AR Foundation session (camera feed, point cloud, planes, occlusion, input) to an MP4 with an embedded binary metadata track, then replays it inside the Unity Editor so you can iterate on ARKit code without redeploying to a device every time. Built for Unity AR developers, currently scoped to iOS/ARKit.

The metadata-as-a-track approach is a genuinely good idea — using MemoryPack to serialize subsystem data frame-by-frame alongside the video means replay is just decoding synced binary blobs instead of faking a camera feed. It implements real XR subsystem providers (ARReplayCameraSubsystem, ARReplayPlaneSubsystem, etc.), so existing ARFoundation code that queries those subsystems runs unmodified in the Editor rather than needing a separate mock API. It also covers the subsystems people actually iterate on most — camera, point cloud, plane, occlusion, input — plus ARCore Earth and Streetscape Geometry, which is more than a toy demo.

Android/ARCore recording is listed as 'planned' but not implemented, so it's iOS-only today despite ARFoundation being cross-platform by design — that's a big gap for anyone targeting both. Several subsystems that matter for real apps (anchors, raycast, image/object tracking, face, mesh) are unchecked in the README, so anything beyond basic plane/point-cloud AR will have replay gaps. It's explicitly a PoC (45 stars, v0.5.0) with no visible test coverage in the tree, and setup is manual — NuGetForUnity for MemoryPack plus a git-URL UPM dependency — which is more friction than a package.json-style install. URP-only also rules it out for projects still on Built-in.
