This SDK has reached end-of-support. The AWS SDK for Go v2 is available here: https://github.com/aws/aws-sdk-go-v2

This is the original AWS SDK for Go, and as of July 31, 2025 it's officially dead — no more updates, ever. It's for people maintaining legacy Go codebases on v1 who haven't migrated to aws-sdk-go-v2 yet, not for anyone starting new work.

The API surface is enormous and battle-tested across a decade of production use — every AWS service has a client, and the session/config/credentials chain patterns are well documented with real examples. The awserr error-code casting pattern and WaitUntil* resource waiters are genuinely convenient abstractions that v2 had to rebuild differently.

It's end-of-life — zero security patches, zero bug fixes, zero new service support going forward, so any CVE in the HTTP or credential-handling path is yours to live with forever. The whole package design (one aws.Config, string-pointer helpers like aws.String/aws.Int64, no built-in context-first methods) is what v2 explicitly replaced, so adopting this now means inheriting technical debt on day one. Migrating off it later means touching every client instantiation and most API call sites, since v2's modular client-per-package structure and functional options aren't source-compatible with v1.
