AWS SDK for the Go programming language.

This is the official v2 AWS SDK for Go, generated from Smithy service models and covering essentially every AWS API. It's for any Go backend that talks to AWS — not a library you'd pick for taste, but the one you use because it's the only fully-supported option.

Codegen from Smithy models means all ~300+ service clients share the same request/response shape and bug fixes propagate everywhere at once instead of being hand-patched per service. Each service lives in its own go.mod, so you only pull in the clients you actually use instead of one giant dependency blob. The middleware stack (signing, retry, user-agent) is exposed and swappable rather than buried, so you can actually customize request behavior instead of monkey-patching HTTP calls. Go version support is pinned explicitly to upstream Go's own release policy, so you're not guessing which Go version works.

The README is pure getting-started boilerplate — there's no explanation of how the middleware pipeline, config resolution, or retry logic actually fit together beyond a link to DESIGN.md. Error handling pushes you into errors. As with smithy-specific error types instead of plain Go error values, which trips up anyone used to idiomatic Go. It's a sprawling monorepo of independently versioned submodules, so pinning compatible versions across aws-sdk-go-v2 core and individual service packages is a recurring source of go.sum churn. And because it's generated wall-to-wall from AWS's own API models, there's no lightweight path to just hit a raw endpoint — you're committed to the full SDK abstraction even for simple one-off calls.
