// the take

An in-editor level blockout tool for Godot that adds CSG-style primitives (blocks, prisms, cylinders, stairs, tubes), boolean operations, and a face/vertex/edge editing workflow directly into the Godot viewport. It's aimed at Godot users who want a Hammer/TrenchBroom-like blocking-in workflow without leaving the engine, rather than modeling levels in Blender and importing meshes.

Solid feature depth for a blockout tool: clip, intersect, subtract, merge, mirror/rotate/scale on selections, plus primitive generators (stairs, cylinder, prism, tube) with gizmo-driven manipulation. Blocks get collision automatically, so a blockout is playable immediately without a separate collision-authoring pass. It also goes beyond pure blockout into art-ready territory with a dedicated material dock and a UV editor (including triplanar unwrap), so blocks can be textured properly instead of just placeholder-gray. Actively maintained with version-pinned releases tracking specific Godot versions, a real documentation site built from the doc/ folder, and a Discord for support.

Upgrades across versions can break existing level scenes - the README itself tells you to back up your project before updating and walks through a manual 'Upgrade' step to migrate old CyclopsBlocks nodes, which is a real risk if you've got levels built up and aren't paying attention to release notes. It's tightly version-locked to specific Godot releases (1.5.0 needs 4.7+, 1.0.2 needs 4.2+, anything earlier needs 4.0), so moving your project to a newer Godot can mean waiting on a compatible plugin release first. It's a single-maintainer project funded through Ko-fi donations with no sign of a team behind it, so continuity risk is real if the author steps away. Cloning the repo for source (versus grabbing a release zip) requires Git LFS for the binary art assets, which is an extra hoop if you want to build from source or contribute.
