📠 A simple, fast and useful progressive web application
A client-side PWA that scans QR/barcodes using the device camera, wrapping a vendored JS decoder in a webpack-built app shell with offline support. Fine for anyone who wants a minimal, dependency-light reference for building a scanner as an installable web app rather than a native app.
Decoder runs entirely client-side with no server round-trip, so it works offline once the app shell is cached. Uses real PWA fundamentals (manifest, app shell, add-to-home-screen, HTTPS requirement) instead of just slapping a manifest.json on a SPA. Small surface area — one main.js, one vendored decoder, one webpack config — easy to read end to end in a sitting.
The README's first line says development moved to gokulkrishh/qrcodescan.in — this repo is dead and you'd be building on an abandoned fork of itself. Last push was January 2021, so the decoder lib, webpack config, and PWA APIs it leans on predate several browser API changes (camera permission flows especially). The QR decoding logic lives in a vendored app/js/vendor/qrscan.js rather than an npm dependency, so there's no way to pull upstream fixes or know what version/fork it's based on. No tests at all, and the issue templates are the only sign anyone ever thought about maintenance.
