A full stack digital marketplace running on Ethereum with Polygon & Next.js

A companion repo to Nader Dabit's dev.to walkthrough on building an NFT marketplace: Next.js frontend, one Solidity contract, Hardhat for local chain and deployment to Polygon Mumbai/mainnet. It's for someone who wants to see the full mint-list-buy flow in a handful of files, not for building a real marketplace on top of.

The scope is deliberately small — one NFTMarketplace.sol contract, one deploy script, five pages — so you can trace minting through listing through purchase without wading through abstraction layers. The stack choices (Hardhat, ethers, Next.js) are unsurprising and match what most 2021-era dapp tutorials used, so anything you learn here transfers. It ships with a Gitpod config, so you can spin up a local chain and try the flow without installing anything locally.

No commits since September 2023, and the README's testnet instructions point at Polygon Mumbai, which Polygon fully retired in 2024 — half the deploy instructions are dead on arrival. test/sample-test.js is still the unmodified Hardhat boilerplate; there's no actual test coverage for NFTMarketplace.sol. The contract has no visible reentrancy guard or access control, which is a fine simplification for a teaching example but a real problem if someone copies it into a live project. Private key handling via a plaintext .secret file read with fs.readFileSync is a pattern worth unlearning immediately outside of a local tutorial.
