An elegant way to show your menu or messages.

AndroidViewHover is a small Java library that layers a blurred 'hover' view over an existing Android layout to show menus or messages in place, instead of launching a new Activity. It targets Android devs building lightweight overlay UI on very old toolchains (Eclipse/apklib instructions are still in the README).

The core API is genuinely small — wrap a view in BlurLayout, inflate a hover view, call setHoverView, and you're done in a handful of lines. Animation binding for child views (addChildAppearAnimator/addChildDisappearAnimator) is a clean one-liner because it delegates to the author's separate AndroidViewAnimations library instead of reimplementing transitions. The source itself is tiny (BlurLayout, Blur, AnimationProxy, Util), so reading the whole implementation takes minutes.

The build depends on JCenter-hosted artifacts (com.daimajia.androidviewhover:library:1.0.4@aar) — JCenter shut down in 2021, so the Gradle snippet in the README won't resolve without manually repointing to JitPack or vendoring the AAR. It's built on nineoldandroids and RenderScript for blurring, both long deprecated; RenderScript in particular is gone from current Android tooling, which caps how high you can push minSdk/targetSdk. There's no test directory and the Travis CI badge points at a service that no longer builds public repos, so there's no signal the library still compiles against a modern Gradle/AGP setup despite the 2023 last-push date.
