defunkt/dotjs
~/.js
A Chrome extension plus tiny Ruby web server that auto-runs JavaScript files from ~/.js keyed by hostname, so you can hack on any site you visit without publishing a userscript. Archived in 2018 by its own author, who points readers straight at a successor (Witchcraft).
The filename-to-hostname convention (including subdomain fallback to the parent domain) is a genuinely clean idea for per-site scripting. Bundling jQuery 1.9 into every injected script removes a real point of friction for quick DOM hacks. The install/uninstall path via a Rakefile and LaunchAgent plist was thoughtful for its era, no manual daemon management.
Hard dependency on Ruby 1.8 and OS X only, Linux/Windows/other-browser support exists only as third-party forks linked in the README, none maintained by this repo. Requires manually trusting a self-signed localhost cert in Keychain, which is the kind of setup step that would get flagged as a security smell today. No commits since 2018, Manifest V2-era Chrome extension that Chrome has since deprecated, so it likely doesn't even load in current Chrome. jQuery 1.9 is baked in with no way to opt out, dead weight if you don't want it.
