⚙️ A Gentle introduction to Kubernetes with more than just the basics. 🌟 Give it a star if you like it.
A long-form, hands-on Kubernetes tutorial that builds a small Flask API, containerizes it, and deploys it to Minikube while touching Services, Ambassador as an API gateway, and the Kubernetes API/RBAC. It's for developers who want a from-scratch walkthrough rather than a reference doc, written by the FAUN newsletter folks.
It builds everything from first principles — writing the Flask app, Dockerfile, then the Deployment/Service YAML — so you see why each layer exists instead of just copy-pasting manifests. It walks through the Service type progression (ClusterIP → NodePort → LoadBalancer) with the actual tradeoffs instead of hand-waving. It also calls out a real security mistake (COPY . . baking your .env secrets into the pushed image) and shows the .dockerignore fix, which most tutorials skip entirely.
Last pushed February 2023 and it shows: manifests use extensions/v1beta1, long removed from current clusters, so following the YAML literally breaks on any recent Kubernetes version. The repo is laced with FAUN promotional material (join links, Buy Me a Coffee, course upsells) interleaved with the technical content. Setup instructions target Python 3.6.7 and an old Minikube install flow that no longer matches current tooling. The Ambassador/service-mesh comparison, which is in the title and topics, gets a shallow treatment relative to the detailed basics walkthrough.
