fbsamples/f8app
Source code of the official F8 app of 2017, powered by React Native and other Facebook open source projects.
This is the actual shipped source for Facebook's 2017 F8 conference app — schedule, maps, push notifications, social login — built on React Native, Redux, and Relay Classic against a Parse Server backend. It's aimed at developers who want to read real production RN code from that era rather than a toy example.
It's a genuine end-to-end app, not a contrived demo: you get real screens for maps, filtering, notifications, and deep linking wired through Redux actions/reducers at non-trivial scale. The companion makeitopen.com tutorial series walks through why specific architectural choices were made, which is more useful than the code alone. docker-compose.yml gives you a working Parse Server backend to run against instead of just a client shell.
Every core dependency is dead or obsolete — Relay Classic, pre-hooks React Native, and Parse Server are not how anyone builds RN apps in 2026, so this teaches patterns you'd have to unlearn. Test coverage is essentially one snapshot test (convertTimes-test.js); there's no meaningful testing story to learn from. The last push in 2023 is cosmetic repo upkeep, not maintenance — expect build failures on current Xcode/Gradle/Buck without real archaeology to get it running.
