Ansible examples using Vagrant to deploy to local VMs.

A grab-bag of self-contained Ansible + Vagrant examples from Jeff Geerling — each subdirectory spins up a VM running a different real app (Drupal, GitLab, Jenkins, LAMP/LEMP, Rails, SonarQube, etc.) as a companion to his Ansible for DevOps book. It's aimed at people learning Ansible who want runnable playbooks against real services rather than toy tasks.

Each example is fully isolated (own Vagrantfile, inventory, playbook, vars) so you can study or run exactly one without pulling in the rest. The playbooks lean on real Ansible Galaxy roles instead of reinventing provisioning logic, which is a more honest picture of how Ansible gets used in practice than most tutorials. Coverage is broad enough that there's a decent chance whatever stack you're learning against (PHP, Ruby, Java, Node) has an example here.

No commits since November 2023, and it's built entirely on Vagrant + VirtualBox, a stack that's been losing ground since HashiCorp's BSL relicensing pushed people toward Docker or cloud dev environments — anyone adopting this now has to deal with aging tooling on top of learning Ansible. There's no CI validating that the playbooks still apply cleanly, so roles pinned by unversioned requirements.yml files can silently break against current Ansible/Galaxy content. The ELK example is a dead stub that just points elsewhere, which is a rough first impression if you land on it before reading the README.
