// the take

A bottom sheet component for React Native built on Reanimated and Gesture Handler, doing the native-thread gesture/animation work most hand-rolled sheet implementations get wrong. It's for teams already on (or willing to adopt) Reanimated v3 + Gesture Handler v2, who need a sheet that handles scrollable content, keyboard avoidance, and modal presentation correctly rather than bolting a sheet onto a plain Animated.View.

Gesture and snap-point animations run on the native thread via Reanimated worklets, so dragging stays smooth even while JS is busy — the actual hard problem with DIY bottom sheets. It handles the scrollable-inside-draggable handoff properly across FlatList, SectionList, ScrollView, VirtualizedList, FlashList and LegendList, which is normally where custom implementations break. Extension points (custom backdrop, handle, background, footer) are separate composable components rather than one component with 40 props. React Native Web support means you're not maintaining a second sheet implementation for web builds of the same app.

Current major version hard-depends on Reanimated v3 and Gesture Handler v2 — if your app is on older versions of either, you're taking on that upgrade before you can use this at all, and the v2/v4 branches for older Reanimated are explicitly unmaintained. The library has been rewritten wholesale across three Reanimated majors (v1 through v3), which means the public API and internals have already moved twice and could move again if Reanimated changes its animation model. It's maintained by one person funded through GitHub Sponsors, so issue turnaround and long-term continuity depend on his bandwidth rather than a team or company backing it. Deep customization (custom handle/background interacting with dynamic sizing, or nested sticky-header lists inside the sheet) is only lightly covered in the docs beyond the common cases, so edge cases mean reading source.
