// the take
A carousel/slider component for React Native built on top of FlatList, with built-in parallax images, pagination dots, and three layout presets (default, stack, tinder). It's aimed at RN devs who need a swipeable card/image carousel without writing the scroll-snap math themselves.
Feature set is genuinely deep for a UI component — custom interpolation API lets you write your own scroll-driven animations instead of being stuck with the built-in layouts, and the parallax image component uses the native driver so it doesn't jank. Documentation is unusually thorough: separate docs for props, known issues, tips/tricks, and custom interpolations instead of one giant README dump. Loop mode, RTL, vertical orientation, and orientation-change handling are all covered, which is normally where carousel libraries cut corners.
The README itself is flagging the problem: it's been openly asking for maintainers since the original authors stepped back, and there's no evidence a new maintainer actually took over — last push mid-2024, no release notes linked. The stack/tinder layouts silently drop FlatList for ScrollView, so you lose virtualization exactly when you'd want it (large datasets), and that's documented as a known limitation rather than fixed. Written in old-style class components with no hooks API, and there's no mention of React Native's new architecture (Fabric/TurboModules) support — worth testing before using on a recent RN version. TypeScript types are a separate, community-maintained @types package rather than shipped with the library, so they can drift out of sync.
