Command Line Interface (CLI) for RobotOps
Gort is a Go CLI from the Gobot/Cylon.js/Artoo family that scans for connected hardware (serial, USB, Bluetooth) and flashes firmware to boards like Arduino, Particle, Digispark, BBC Microbit, and Crazyflie. It's for hobbyists and makers who want a single no-dependency binary for device bring-up instead of installing each vendor's SDK.
Ships as a single static Go binary with no runtime dependencies, which is genuinely convenient for burning firmware on a fresh machine without installing Python/Arduino IDE/vendor toolchains first. It covers a surprisingly wide range of hobbyist boards (Arduino/Firmata, Particle Photon/Electron, Digispark, Microbit, Crazyflie, C.H.I.P.) under one CLI with per-board upload logic. Firmware hex files (firmata.cpp.hex, rapiro.cpp.hex) are embedded via bindata.go, so flashing works offline without the user hunting down binaries.
Dead project: last push was October 2023, CI is still wired to Travis (effectively unusable for OSS for years now), no GitHub Actions in sight, so there's nobody fixing driver or OS compatibility regressions. Several supported boards are no longer sold or supported upstream - C.H.I.P. was discontinued in 2019, and Particle Photon/Electron are legacy hardware now, so a chunk of this tool's surface area targets dead hardware. Documentation is thin to the point of unfinished - the README literally ends with 'More help coming soon...' and only documents the scan command in any detail. Test coverage is a single gort_test.go for a CLI that shells out to avrdude and vendor flashing tools across three OSes, which is exactly the kind of cross-platform, permissions-sensitive code that breaks silently without tests.
