An updated introduction to the Spring Framework 5. Become an Expert understanding the core features of Spring In Depth. You would write Unit Tests, AOP, JDBC and JPA code during the course. Includes introductions to Spring Boot, JPA, Eclipse, Maven, JUnit and Mockito.

Companion code for in28minutes' Udemy 'Spring Master Class' course, walking from raw Servlets/JSP up through Spring IoC/DI, MVC, AOP, JDBC and JPA, ending in basic Spring Boot. It's aimed at someone brand new to Spring who wants a guided, step-by-step on-ramp rather than reference docs or a production template.

Each concept is broken into numbered steps with a matching zip snapshot, so you can diff your own code against a known-good checkpoint when you get stuck. Forks (1439) outnumber stars (1188), which is the real signal here: people are actually cloning and working through it, not just starring and forgetting it. The progression is deliberately bottom-up — servlets before Spring MVC, XML config before annotations — which actually helps build intuition for why Spring exists instead of just handing you @Autowired on day one.

It's pinned to Spring Framework 5 and pre-Spring Boot 3, so none of it reflects the Jakarta EE namespace switch or current Boot defaults — a beginner following this today will hit a wall the moment they try it against a current Boot project. Committing zip files per step directly into git is a bad habit that bloats the repo and makes the actual diffs between steps invisible unless you unzip each one. Early sections teach JSP/Servlet patterns that almost nobody writes anymore, and the testing coverage stops at a basic JUnit/Mockito intro with no mention of Testcontainers or Spring Boot's current test slices.
