[DEPRECATED] An IPython notebook-compatible Javascript/HTML viewer for matplotlib animations
JSAnimation is an old HTML/JS writer for embedding matplotlib animations in IPython notebooks or standalone web pages. It is for exactly nobody today, since the functionality was merged into matplotlib itself back in version 2.1.
The core idea was genuinely useful before matplotlib absorbed it: rendering frame-by-frame animations as base64-embedded HTML with a slider widget avoided the need for ffmpeg or ImageMagick. The embed=True vs embed=False split (self-contained file vs. a frames directory) was a sensible tradeoff for notebook sharing.
Explicitly deprecated by its own author in the README, last pushed in 2017, and superseded by matplotlib.animation.HTMLWriter — there is no reason to install this separately. Relies on an HTML5 range input slider, which the README itself flags as a browser compatibility gap. No tests, no CI, no packaging metadata beyond a bare setup.py, so it wouldn't survive contact with a modern Python environment anyway.
